Youth Exhibition
Also this weekend is the opening of the Youth exhibition at the West Cork Arts Centre. The exhibition, and programmes feeding into it are organised by me in my role as schools and Youth Coordinator there. The exhibition this year includes a multimedia installation by the Friday Night Youth Arts group who have been working this year with artist in residence Julia Pallone. Their exhibtion is called My Mind is a Map and includes a sound piece, a text piece an interactive map and an installation made of papercuts and shadows. The exhibtion also features work from the second level schools programme, a projection of drawings called Deep Woods inspired by an animated drawing by Anita Groener. Tess Leak was the facilitating artist on that programme. Well done to all of them. For more info see www.westcorkartscentre.com or details of the opening event on facebook here.

BAVA exhibition opening
Thankyou to everyone who came along to the opening of our degree show yesterday in the West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen. Patricia Hurl opened the show and took the time to talk about each of the seven artists and their work, which made each of us feel special. We had a great day, and evening back on Sherkin. The show remains open until 13th March.

Exhibition WCAC
To the left is a gallery view of my installation as part of the BAVA Sherkin degree show. The photograph shows gallery 2 with one half of my installation visible, a projection onto paper, with a drawing on paper facing it, not visible here, on the opposite wall. The title of the piece is Cast of one. The title references both performance and sculpture, and the piece explores the isolation of emptiness, space and silence, when all we have left to look at is ourself.
The painting, also visible in the photograph is by my fellow graduate Veronika O'Driscoll. the two pieces complement each other well as her work also explores space, albeit in a very different context and medium.
